Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe and understand the acculturation experiences of Korean-American registered nurses. Methods: Data were collected through in-depth interviews with fourteen Korean-American registered nurses working in New York and New Jersey from February 2016 to January 2019. Colaizzi’s phenomenological method was used to analyze the data. Results: In this study, eleven theme clusters and four categories were generated. The four categories consisted of “Searching for one"s identity in desperation”, “Living as a Korean to the root”, “Adapting and accepting in the course of life”, and “Assimilating into local culture by learning ways to adapt faster”. Conclusion: This study used a phenomenological research method to reveal the essence of acculturation experiences of Korean nurses working in the U. S. This study will help improve our understanding of the life of Korean-American registered nurses and provide basic data for building efficient acculturation strategies in response to healthcare globalization.
