Recently, energy conversion is being promoted to replace existing nuclear and thermal power sources with renewable power sources due to environmental issues such as fine dust and greenhouse gases and safe issues caused by accidents at the Fukusima nuclear power plant. However, it is required to secure large-capacity energy resources to cope with daily power output volatility caused by the expansion of renewable energy. In order to meet these demands, it is possible to seek optimized energy conversion through flexible operation technology of thermal power plant. In this paper, the conceptual introduction and technology trend about a flexible operation of thermal power plant are described.
