The purpose of this thesis is to review on historic feature of the ancient place name of Eumseong. In this paper, ‘Inghol’, ‘Inggeunnae’ and ‘Seolseong’ were studied in relation to these place names and ‘Eumseong’ in literature. ‘Inghol’ was restructured as "*Neohol’ or ‘*Neuhol’ through the review of the ancient Korean language period’s Chinese phonograph, the deciphering of the place name of the land borrowed from Chinese characters, and the name of the existing name, which is referred to as ‘Ing’, which is seen as ‘wide castle’. And, ‘Inghol’ was changed to ‘Eumseong’ due to the fact that the Chinese phonograph in the Ancient Korean changed to make the [Ing] sound to change into [Ing] that is similar to the Middle Korean, and when the revision work for the place name was undertaken, the "Eum" that had similar sound was selected. ‘Inggeunnae’ may be restructured for ‘*Neunnae’ or ‘*Neogeunna’ and it means a ‘broad land’. ‘Seolseong’ is the name of ancient fortress that was on Sujeongsan, resulting in having the pseudo-name of Eumseong from the fortress name.
