This paper is a case study of humanities therapy for a North Korean defector and its purpose is to examine the identity aspects of the North Korean defector through the spoken and written data during humanities therapy sessions. In order to examine the aspects of identity expression, the language text data collected in specific interactions are analyzed precisely. In chapter 2, the speaking & writing materials used during the sessions and the story-analyzing method are explained. In chapter 3, the language data of a North Korean defector are analyzed and examined by identity manifestation through three dimensions of Hoene and Deppermann.
The identity of the temporal dimension is reproduced as the disconnected and omitted figures of North Korean space, North Korean-defecting space, the third country space, and South Korean space. In addition, the participant tends to pay more attention to the future than the past and present, and her self-directed initiative is partially confirmed through the meaningful relevance of the past, present and future. The vocabulary analyzed give a clue that she has tense feelings and weak confidence in her current situations and she is focused on the future that is not yet decided.
