This paper aims to investigate theoretically the meaning of geographical learning in schools in a global era. It focuses on critical global citizenship as an alternative educational goal towards global social justice. To support this educational value, by bringing Levinasian concept of subjectivity, Biestian idea of learning, and Derridian deconstruction together as key educational elements, this study articulates how geographical learning may engage more with the development of a citizen towards ‘others’ and their differences. A sample of learning strategy in school geography is additionally introduced. The article concludes by proposing an alternative approach to school geography. For critical global citizenship education, I argue, first, that geographical learning in school geography should support students’ relationship with ‘others’ and their differences ethically, politically, and democratically. Second, based upon the space for epistemic justice towards ‘others’, school geography should become a more inclusive subject in which the practices of existential justice ‘in’ and ‘with’ the world are sustained.
