The purpose of this study is to investigate early childhood teachers’ perception and reality on participation right. The subjects of this study were 441 early childhood teachers in Gwangju metropolitan city and JeollaNamdo. This study conducted survey research, and analyzed data using frequency analysis and one-way ANOVA. The results of this study were as follows. Early childhood teachers’ perception on participation right and the reality of young children’s participation right during the daily work of early childhood institution was meaningfully different according to teacher’s background variables. Early childhood teachers’ perception on participation right and the reality of young children’s participation right during the daily work of early childhood institution according to teachers’ age, education, career, type of their institution, marital status, and age of young children in charge, in particular, they were very different according to the type of their institution. However, teachers of state-owned child care centers had the highest interest in participation right, but teachers of state-owned kindergartens showed the highest guarantee of young children’s participation right. This means that there is a gap between perception and practice on participation right. As a result, this study suggests that teacher education about participation right to increase teachers’ professional knowledge and skills should be implemented immediately in order to guarantee young children’s participation right during the daily work of early childhood institution. Finally, it is significant that this study provides basic data for making a method to increase young children’s participation right by investigating the reality of young children’s participation right generally and concretely.
