This study reviews and synthesizes educational technology scholarship by analyzing early and recent years of publications in the Journal of Educational Technology (JET), the leading journal of the Korean Society of Educational Technology (KSET). Using the research goals and methods frameworks, a content analysis was conducted to review 374 studies published in JET over two nine-year periods (1985-1993 and 2009-2017). Findings present a number of interesting trends in research goals and methods of educational technology research in Korea, particularly the practice and acceptance of the diverse nature of scholarship manifested in the use of research goals and methods in our field. While there was a major decrease in publications with Theory development/synthesis research goals, the use of research goals such as Descriptive/interpretivisit and Design/development was increased in recent papers. Regarding research methods, concurrent with a decrease in literature review methods, a diversified use of research methods such as quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods was found in recent scholarship. Lastly, the findings also reveal the research goals and methods that have been neglected but needed in future scholarship for their contribution to educational policy and practice. Implications for current educational technology scholarship and the Korean education landscape and recommendations for future scholarship were discussed.
