This study aims to examine the effects of appearance interest on self-esteem among university students. For the purpose, a questionnaire survey was conducted among university students residing Seoul and Gangwon Province. A total of 476 questionnaires was used for the final data analysis with SPSS 21.0. The results indicate that the female students have higher appearance interest than the male students do, while the male students show higher self-esteem than the female students do. When it comes to positive self-esteem, the higher fashion interest the male students have, the higher self-esteem they have. On the other hand, the higher makeup interest the female students have, the higher self-esteem they have. This study is meaningful in that it provides the basic data for developing and implementing a variety of beauty programs to improve university students' self-esteem, interpersonal relationships, and school adaptability.
