An entomopathogenic fungus, Paecilomyces fumosoroceusSFP-198 was isolated in Kyungbuk province,Korea and screened out for the control of Trialeurodesvaporariorum nymphs. It showed 72.5% efficacyagainst second instars of T. vaporariorum nymphs at 6days after treatment in the laboratory. To select anactive ingredient for the mass production and the formulation,SFP-198 culture products were comparedbased on their insecticidal activities against T. vaporariorumnymphs. Among them, conidia and blastosporesshowed much higher insecticidal activity thansupernatants. Furthermore, SFP-198 conidia weremore heat-resistant than blastospores, and also powderform of conidia was more stable than their suspensionform. SFP-198 conidia showed high pathogenicityon not only T. vaporariorum but also Tetranychusurticae in the glasshouse. This result suggestedthat SFP-198 conidia can be used as a multi-targetingbiological control agent against sucking agri- culturalpests, such as whiteflies and mites.
