A new malting barley variety, Daeabori, was developed from cross betwen Jinkwangbori/Milyang 46 and Mihogolden,a good quality, by the barley breding team in the National Yeongnam Agricultural Experiment Station(NYAES) in 2001. An eliteline, YMB1503-3B-8-1-2, was selected in 1998 and designated as Milyang103. It showed good performance in the regional adaptationyield trials(RAT) from 1999 to 2001 and was released as the name of aeabori. aeabori has medium winter hardiness and wassusceptable to powdery mildew and BaYMV. Lodging resistance of aeabori is stronger than that of Jinyangbori. The average head-ing and maturing dates of aeabori were April 18th and May 25th in the regional adaptation yield trials(RAT) during 1999-2001,respectively, it was similar to Jinyangbori. Culm length of aeabori was 72 cm and was same as that of Jinyangbori in paddy fieldconditions Spikes of aeabori was longer than that of Jinyangbori by 6.5 cm and number of spikes per m2 was 977. The 1,000 grainweight of Daeabori was 39.8 g. Its resistance to diseases was similar to Jinyangbori. The yield potential of Daeabori was about4.88 MT/ha in paddy fields in the regional adaptation yield trials(RAT) during 1999-2001. It was the same as Jinyangbori, but theaverage yield of Daeabori in Cheju province was 90% of that of Jinyangbori during this period. Daeabori has good malting qual-ity including low protein content, high germination energy and capacity, low water sensitivity, high malting yeild and malt extract. TheKolbach index and diastatic power of Daeabori were better than those of Jinyangbori.
