Genetic relationship of the 31 Asian pears were distinguished through the principal component (PC) analysis using 34 morphological characteristics and 130 RAPD polymorphisms. The three major PCs were represented about 19 morphological characteristics which could explain 53.3% of total PC analysis. The first PC was highly correlated with quantitative size characteristics. The second and third PC was closely related with the fruit shape and foliage hair characteristics respectively. Genetic relationships were divided into six groups. Three ancient pea pears could be distinguished by the both distinctive morphological and DNA characteristics. Korean principal species, P. ussuriensis and P. pyrifolia, were classified with fruit and leaf sized related PC 1 and foliage hair related PC 2. Three major PCs using 130 RAPD polymorphisms were indicated 36 polymorphic bands and were explain 27% of total variables. Three major PCs using RAPD were classified genus Pyrus into the six groups. RAPD result suggested Korean native Hwangshilli, Andong is closely related with P. ussuriensis. Two Chinese pears belonging P. bretschneideri were assumed interspecific species among the P. betulaefolia, P. ussuriensis and P. pyrifolia. The selected index characteristics through the PC analysis could increase management efficiency of fruit tree germplasm by reduction of variables. Though PC analysis is a useful method to manage pear germplasm, much more evaluated characteristics could promise accuracy of genetic relationships in the repository.
