The first vaccine against human papilomaviruses(HPV) formulated with HPV16 L1 virus-like particles (VLPs)produced in yeast was aproved by the FDA in June 2006.Nevertheless, there have been few studies of the immunogenicityin mice of VLPs. In this study, we evaluated the cell-mediatedimmune response to VLPs produced in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.After imunization of mice with HPV16 L1 VLPs, wemeasured splenocytes proliferation and the levels of IFNγ,IL2, IL4, and IL5. Splenocytes proliferation was significantlyincreased and a mixed Th1/Th2 response was indicated. IgGsubtype immunoresponses were strongly induced and IgG1titers were higher than those of IgG2a.
