The inhibitory effects of flavanone derivatives onHelicobacter pylori (HP) growth, infection and VacA toxin-induced vacuolation were investigated. Among flavanonestested, ponciretin potently inhibited the growth of HP with aMIC value of 0.01 mg/ml and VacA toxin-induced vacuolationin HeLa cels with IC50 value of 0.078 mM. However, otherflavanones inhibited neither HP growth nor VacA toxin-induced vacuolation. Al flavanones tested did not inhibitHP infection to KATO III cels. Ponciretin also inhibitedactivation of procaspase-3 to caspase-3 in HeLa cell inducedby HP VacA toxin, but did not affect Bax and Bcl-2 proteinlevels. These findings indicate that ponciretin inhibits growthas well as vacuolation by HP VacA toxin, which induces celldeath via
