This paper is to empirically estimate job matching function for Daegu-Gyeongbuk labor market and provide policy implications. Empirical analysis gives rise to the following results. First, as in previous literature in this line the estimated elasticities of matches with respect to unemployment and vacancies are positive and significant. Second, the vacant job has a three times stronger impact than the unemployed on new hires. Third, the positive and significant coefficient of the time trend implies an amelioration in the matching effectiveness of the labor market since 1996. Fourth, we also find evidence of the existence of an aggregate matching function with constant returns to scale. The result implies that regional governments may need to support firms that have vacant jobs rather than the unemployed in terms of policy effectiveness. On the other hand, the result also implies the job search process of the unemployed may be inefficient. Thus, to help the unemployed find jobs, governments need to adopt policies that would improve the efficiency of the job search process.
