The paper aims at identifying what kind of connective relations the systematic connection between the first and middle statements of the sijo has with last statement. There are two kinds: ‘and’ and ‘but.’ When the ‘and’ connective relation is employed at the start of the last statement, the former poetic discourse will exist no more, concluded. since the last statement has ccome as a result of the first and middle statements. When the ‘but’ connective relation is employed at the start of the last statement, the latter topic has been strengthened, since the former topic has been denied through the introduction of another discourse. And there is no more poetic discoure here. Korean traditional sijo has a different connective relation between the first and middle statements, and the middle and last statement, each. So, if the same connective relation is employed, it is not fit for the traditional sijo, where the first and middle statements have one semantic unit, which is concluded in the last statement. In the last statement of the sijo the former topic should be concluded, the ‘and’ or ‘but’ connective relation should come at the start of the last statement. Then the whole meaning of a sijo will be concluded, and the reader will appreciate the flavor of the sijo.
