The story of Tang Xuanzong and Yang, Guifei started in Tang Dynasty, which has been paid more attention since Song Dynasty. Yang, Guifei‘s dramatic and tragic life inspired the literary imagination, becoming a motif for various literary works such as poetry, legendary novel, variety play and Chinese opera. In the literature works, Yang, Guifei has two images. Those were ‘妖女’(A evil woman who brings disaster to king and country) and a tragic heroine.
Although Song Dynasty made huge improvement in various sectors, it was the weakest in Chinese history. In order to cope with the situation, Jingkang Incident, the poets in Song Dynasty considered Yang, Guifei as a tool for criticism of the disturbed social conditions. They used the materials such as Tang Xuanzong, An, Lu-shan, sweet brier, and litchi for the description of Yang, Guifei. They depicted the image of Yang, Guifei in the form of Poems on Paintings and reading notes. They described that she had an immoral relationship with An, Lu-shan, which is close to fiction. But the poets in Song Dynasty, according to the historical background, accepted it as a historical fact and learned a lesson from it. Tang Xuanzong was carried away by Yang, Guifei's radiant beauty, so he did not take care of politics. Thus Yang, Guifei, who made Tang Xuanzong so incompetent, was ‘妖女’ and immoral woman.
