The satirical short stories covered all aspects of social life, and the current events short stories valued social events. As a result of the special background, on the one hand, they reflected the people’ attitude about social and political phenomena, on the other hand, they incarnated a clear‐cut concept that proposed by Liang Qi‐chao, through the novel to educate the public, to improve society. In addition, the Shen Newspaper published the blessing short stories was the product that exchange between the journalists and learn from the experience of each other; and advertisement short stories to some extent reflected the social situation that novels were widely popular. The year of 1911, a column named "Zi You Tan (Free to talk)" appeared. The column’s editor Wang Dun‐gen not only paid attention to short stories, but also engaged in creating and translating short stories. Under his auspices, "Zi You Tan (Free to talk)" has become the best short story publishing garden. The column provided a lot of experience for the other newspaper that set up special column to publish short stories.
