This paper explores some issues related to the optionality of morphological realization of case markers in Korean. First, it is claimed, against a somewhat generalized assumption, that the morphological realization of case markers is not prerequisite for DP movement: in Korean, DPs with no case marker can move to the vP initial position as well as the phrase initial position. Second, it is advanced that in Korean, left-dislocated nominals with no case marker are always interpreted as Topics, not as Foci, because Ø, the invisible counterpart of case marker, has the feature [-focus]. Third, I argue that in Korean, the left-dislocation construction can be derived either by EM or IM of DP in Spec, CP (or TopP).
