Modern research supports our intuitive recognition of the impact of aromas on mood and other mental states. the proper use of essential oils may enhance your emotional outlook and provide support and help balance your emotions during the day. The use of essential oils for emotional well-being is what is often first thought of when someone thinks of the term "aromatherapy." Essential oils are comprised of naturally occurring chemicals that work in synergy with one another. Because essential oils evaporate quickly (known as being "volatile"), their molecules are easily inhaled. Without providing an intimidating lesson in olfaction (the science of the sense of smell), the inhalation of these naturally occurring synergistic chemicals provide triggers to our brain. These triggers effect our emotions. Inhalation of these wondrous molecules also provides physical benefit which may also work together to aid in our emotional state .The electrophilic nature of the oils on the lower side of the structure-effect diagram coincides with a powerful, stimulating character, while oils having a decidedly nucleophilic nature generally exert calming and relaxing influences. The value of the structure-effect diagram lies in the fact that it allows us to connect a physically measurable parameter with the effects of the oils. Applying the view of Eastern medicine, it is quite possible to recognize the yin character of Melissa and verbena and, conversely, a definite yang character of oregano and cinnamon true talent of the essential oils is their ability to work on emotional imbalances behind, or intertwined with, physical symptoms and imbalances.
