The purpose of this study was to investigate mediating effect of self-esteem on the perception of parental rearing attitude toward career cognitive development in fifth graders of elementary school. A total of 303 subjects were surveyed. A total of 294 were analyzed except for the inadequate response. The measurement instrument was parental attitude type test, self-esteem test, career recognition test, and SPSS 23.0 and Hayes' PROCESS macro 2.16. As a result, self-esteem had a statistically significant effect on career recognition at level of significance .05, and there was a statistically significant difference in authority type, dictatorship type, permissive type, and absence type among the parenting attitude types. As a result of bootstrapping to verify the mediation effect, the indirect effect of authority type, permissive type, authority type, and absence type was statistically significant. Therefore, it was found that mediation effect of self-esteem was found to be influenced by the perceived parental parenting attitude style on career recognition.
