One Hundred Patriotic Poems in Korean Translation and Yuukokuisyuhyakusyu are related to each other in that they share a theme (‘patriotism’) and describe figures during the late Tokugawa period. In addition, some historic figures, such as Unbin Umeda and Yoshida Shoin, were mentioned in both texts, which means that One Hundred Patriotic Poems in Korean Translation and Yuukokuisyuhyakusyu are closely related to each other in terms of the main text and appendix, respectively. Then, what kind of relationship do these wakas have? In One Hundred Patriotic Poems, patriotism-themed wakas written by the figures from the Asuka-Nara to the late Tokugawa Periods were described. On the contrary, Yuukokuisyuhyakusyu covered the wakas written during the late Tokugawa Period only. In other words, while One Hundred Patriotic Poems was a patriotism-themed general theory, Yuukokuisyuhyakusyu was a special edition. Then, what is the position of ‘One Hundred Patriotic Poems in Korean Translation – Yuukokuisyuhyakusyu’ in literary history? In One Hundred Patriotic Poems, the text that covers the wakas by patriots during the Tokugawa Period was published. In other words, no text described wakas on patriots during the late Tokugawa Period in One Hundred Patriotic Poems. In other words, he added Yuukokuisyuhyakusyu as an appendix in addition to the translation of One Hundred Patriotic Poems into One Hundred Patriotic Poems in Korean Translation. After all, he created a brand-new version of a Japanese waka in Joseon.
