배경：BacT/Alert3D System (bioMerieux, Durham, NC, USA)을 이용한 혈액배양에서 FAN-A 호기성 배양병의 혈액배양 성적이 STD-A 호기성 배양병보다 더 좋은지를 확인할 필요가 있었다.
방법：2004년 7-12월 중 부산대학교병원 응급실에서 혈액배양이 의뢰된 것 중 일부인 596쌍의 배양에서 FAN-A 호기성 배양병을 추가로 접종하여 배양을 실시하고 STD-A의 배양성적과 비교하였다.
결과：596쌍의 배양에서 혈액배양의 양성률은 84/596(14.1%)이었다. 그 중 STD-A에만 자란 경우 2.5%, FAN-A에만 자란 경우 5.9%, 양쪽에 모두 자란 경우 5.7%로, FAN-A의 양성률(11.6%)이 STD-A의 양성률(8.2%)보다 유의하게 높았다(p<0.001). 검출 균종 및 검출 시간에는 차이가 없었다.
결론：BacT/Alert3D를 이용한 혈액배양에서 FAN-A 배양병을 사용하면 STD-A 배양병을 사용한 것보다 배양 양성률을 더 높일 수 있을 것으로 생각한다.
