다발성 원발암은 한 사람에서 악성 종양이 발생하는 것을의미하는 것으로, 1889년 Billroth에 의해 처음 보고되었다.
최근 들어 암 진단 기술의 점진적인 발달, 조기 진단 그리고수명 연장 등으로 인하여 다발성 원발암의 발생률은 증가하는 추세이다. 국내에서 중복암의 보고들이 일부 있었지만 사중복암에 대한 보고는 매우 드물다. 저자는 최근 68세 남자에게서 식도, 편도, 간 그리고 협점막에 발생한 이시성 사중복암을 경험하였기에 문헌고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다.
