부신 골수지방종은 대부분 양성, 비기능성 종양이다. 현재까지 부신 골수지방종의 병태생리는 명확하게 밝혀져 있지않다. 하지만 만성적으로 증가된 부신피질자극호르몬은 부신피질 세포의 골수지방세포로의 화생을 유발할 수 있다. 본증례에서는 치료되지 않은 선천성부신과다형성증에서 과다한 부신피질자극호르몬에 의하여 부신골수지방종이 생긴 것으로 판단할 수 있다. 그러므로 선천성부신과다형성증 환자에서 규칙적인 치료가 이루어지지 않은 경우, 부신 골수지방종과 같은 합병증이 증가할 수 있으므로 복부 컴퓨터단층촬영을 통하여 부신 종괴 발생 유무의 확인이 필요할 수 있다.
