Biology education does not include much environment-related content in Korea. However, there has been increasing attention to environmental awareness as students have more opportunities of outdoor exploration activities, such as field trips. The scientific attitude and environmental awareness were analyzed and compared of sixth graders in elementary school and 2nd graders in junior high school. The scientific score of elementary school students was higher significantly than those of junior high school. There was no statistically significant difference of scientific attitude between boys and girls; however, the boys' was higher than the girls. The girls showed higher scores in environmental awareness. Most of the students showed high scores in environmental awareness. The scores of oral statement category and emotional category were high, but the scores of activity statement category were relatively low. There was no statistically significant difference of environmental awareness between the elementary students and the junior high school students. The only major difference was that elementary school students were high in frugal use of water resources, compared to that of junior high school. However, there was no correlation of scientific attitude and environmental awareness except for the water resource, between elementary students and junior high school students. To improve environmental awareness and scientific attitude, it is necessary that more active science education should be implemented and a new instructional strategy focusing on concepts and attitudes should be developed.
