A Korea is rapidly entering into an aging society, and middle-aged woman are the first population group that will arrive in this worrisome society. This paper attempts to grasp how self-consciousness levels of these middle-aged women affect their make-up behavior. We have selected middle-aged women in their fifties residing in the Kyungnam area (Masan and Changwon) as subjects, and asked them to complete the questionnaire. The total of 199 questionnaires were used for the final analysis, which was conducted on SAS 9.1.3. Our research results comprise the followings. ➀ From the analysis of factors in middle-aged women's self-consciousness, we have extracted three types of factors: type of self-diagnosis, type of deliberation and type of self-awareness. ➁ From the analysis of k-means clustering for classifying self-consciousness, type I of high-leveled self-consciousness and type II of low-leveled self-consciousness were derived. ➂ From the t-test for each clustering type on the basis of self-consciousness factors, type I revealed relatively strong self-consciousness, compared to type II. ➃ General make-up behavior of middle-aged women varies according to their self-consciousness levels.
