The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristic of Korean migrant community in foreign countries and Turkish migrant community in Germany on the basis of comparative analysis. Both communities have developed transnational activities and networks under transnationalism to be based on national identity and culture including language, religion and so on. According to Portes and his colleagues, transnationalism can be classified into ‘transnationalism from above’by powerful institutional actors and ‘transnationalism from below’by immigrants and their home country counterparts. Different transnationalism had influenced the formation of dissimilar transnational migrant communities such as Korean migrant community in various nation-states and Turkish migrant community. While transnational activities and networks by Korean migrants have been initiated by the Korean government and governmental organizations, Turkish transnational activities and networks, resulted in chain migration, political movement and religious linkage across borders, were established by Turkish migrants themselves.
