As international oil prices recently surge to 147 US dollars per barrel, Korea, a non-oil producing country, is suffering economic stagnation. Basically, Korea has to be supplied with raw materials essential to economic growth such as oil and natural gas for sustainable development. Therefore, economic cooperaton with major Islamic OPEC countries supplying these natural resources is very important to the Korean economy in the future. In particular, Iran and Indonesia are considered as Korea’s good economic partners because their economies are complementary to that of Korea in terms of Industrial and economic cooperation. First, economic cooperation between Korea and Iran are mainly focused on the energy production field and the major plant business for energy production and Infrastructure construction. Therefore, economic cooperation with Iran is very significant because Iran is the world’s second biggest oil exporter and construction plant exports are expected to see an increase in the future. Second, Indonesia is very important to Korea in the future in terms of oil security and direct overseas investment because Korea is importing 25% of oil and 52% of natural gas from Indonesia and Indonesia is Korea’s third largest market in direct overseas investment by Korean companies.
