This study aims to analyze the special character of the poetic
language and cognitive meaning in Forugh Farrokhzad's poems.
Forugh Farrokhzad showed new horizon of Iranian modern
poetry by her new poetic words and their aesthetic effects. She
exerted herself to express the diffculties of real life by her
own words. There are 129 poems in all in five volumes of her
poetries. They are divided into two periods. The first period is
『The Captive』, 『The Wall』, 『The Rebellion』and the
second period is『Another Birth』, 『Let us Believe in the
Beginning of the Cold Season』. In order to understand of her
poetic world, this study is to search the frequency of their
words through all of her poetries.
These are as follows :
‘night and darkness’, ‘love’, ‘heart’, ‘kiss’, ‘hug’, ‘hope’, ‘shelf
of bird and prison’, ‘eagerness’, ‘guilt’, ‘grave and death’, ‘god’,
‘hand’, ‘star’, ‘regret’, ‘window’, ‘moment’ used during two
periods. They are easy and simple so her poetry was composed
of denotative and connotative meaning in harmony. Euphony and
imagery can not be separated in the poetic composition. The
poems are frank, intense, and straightforward representations of
very personal experiences, conflicts, and dilemmas couched in
everyday images and vocabulary. Such poems were almost
unprecedented in Persian in their autobiographical candor.
Therefore her poetic language leads us to make perception as
well as sensation. With these characteristics of poetic word, her
poetry achieved three effects :
1. Application of words easier and simpler than ordinary
words in Iranian old poems using.
2. The gradation of standard languages into literary
languages.
3. The expression of feminine consciousness and femininity.
Here it is for the reason that Forugh Farrokhzad is the best
female poet and one of the most leading poets in the history of
Iranian literature
