Until today, eight Pit Tombs, four Tombs with big jar coffins, four Tombs with stone chamber, and four Tombs with stone pieces have been excavated in the Wonju Popchon-Ri. The eras of the old tombs gathered in the Popchon-Ri are divided into three(Mahan․Paekje․Silla) periods according to the structure and their buried artifacts of them. The old tombs gathered in the Popchon-Ri were made during early first century to the early sixth century. Among them Pit Tomb No. 6 represents Mahan period, and Tombs with stone chamber N0. 1․No. 2 is represents the Paekje period. The objective of this paper is to compare these archaeological evidences with the historical documentation in Wonju. The outcomes of this paper are as the followings: First, The creator of Pit Tomb No. 6 is the chieftain(called Sinji) of Ilhwa-guk. According to the East Barbarians story of San Kuo Chih written by Chen-shou, Mahan had 54 Polities. Sinbungo-guk is the one of these 54 Polities. Sinbungo-guk was located Ga-pyung near the Han-River. Ilhwa-guk was located near Sinbungo-guk. Therefore, Wonju was also one of the 54 polities. Second, Tombs with stone chamber N0. 1․No. 2 were constructed under the influence of Paekje. the buried artifacts of them is the archaeological evidence. At that time the relationship between Polities and Paekje was called as the feudalism of the korean style.
