Homeless people were becoming a social problem in the middle 1990s in Japan. Since governmental supports were insufficient and inadequate, private support groups came to rescue homeless people. Private support groups are not monolithic. Thus, this paper classifies homeless support groups into two types, ‘Social Movement Type’ and ‘Charity Type’. ‘Social Movement Type’ support groups recognize that becoming homeless is attributed to instability of employment and functional disorders of public services. On the other hand, Charity Type support groups think that becoming homeless results from private problems. Most of the ‘Charity Type’ supports groups are congregational. Consequently, they usually plan to get people out of homelessness through internalization of religious faith. Korean evangelical churches activities are particularly remarkable. This paper focuses on the phenomena of Korean churches supporting Japanese homeless people. And it tries to explain the 3 points below. ① reasons why Korean evangelical churches support Japanese homeless people. ② Korean evangelical churches’ methods of homeless support. ③ Effects of homeless support activities by Korean evangelical churches.
