In a society where direct or indirect effects of environmental problems on our survival have substantially increased, the role of government and the study of government trust have faced a crucial turning point. Accordingly, this study hypothesizes that the citizen’s environmental perception is a crucial factor in increasing trust in government. The major findings are as follows. First, in citizen’s environmental quality evaluation, citizen’s recent negative perception of environmental problems have negative impact on trust in government. Second, in terms of citizen’s perception of government efforts, the more the citizens are satisfied with government policies of protecting the environment, the more positive effects they have on government trust. Finally, in terms of citizen’s environmental self-efficacy, the citizen’s increasing self efficacy of environmental problems has a positive relation with government trust. The results suggest that in order to increase government trust, the government should consistently pursue policy measures that citizens could feel their self efficiency and at the same time it should also make systematic efforts to promote its programs to the citizens and let them know how well the government is prepared to deal with the environmental problems.
