Opera Rusalka is the most famous of Czech works written by Antonín Dvořák. It consists of three acts and is focused on Rusalka, who is a water nymph from Slavic mythology. Rusalka in this opera is portrayed as the feminine image such as a nymph or goddess of water and mermaid in the prototype of the mythology. But Rusalka's character is not reflected as same as an archetypical image of mythology. Because It is inspired not only by rusalka who is the water nymph in Slavic mythology but also by the spirit of water in Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid and Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué's Undine. As a result Romantic interest, such as the union of humanity and nature, which is shown above in these different stories is connected with the opera of Rusalka, And Rusalka, main character in opera, has reinvented herself as a combined femininity which is similar or different to previous water nymph. These Images of Women are more clearly shown by being interlinked with symbol of Water and Moon, that is one of the sets leading a whole atmosphere in this opera. This paper is not focusing on the case of Antonín Dvořák's musicality, but libretto which is one of the opera sets: how to be expressed image and symbol and interlinked the genre characteristics of the opera with mythology and its story of the transformation into fairy tale. Rusalka is described through association between woman, water, and moon. And poetic image is shown in libretto. For this reason we can interpret the libretto as the type of literature. That is to say, it is based on the premise that opera is the combination of the composite arts : music, poet, dance, art etc, and libretto is related to literature. So, it is examined an analysis of Rusalka in the opera focusing on libretto. And it would be say how to combine with and reinvent. Rusalka as an archetype of mythology and borrowing elements from two different stories. Also, it is to be analyzed the image and symbol focusing on the relativity of Women, Water and Moon in the libretto in comparing image of Women between Rusalka as an opera's character and previous mythical water nymph.
