In this research, the mediating effects of resilience and self-esteem in the influence of mourning due to a separation by death on the post-traumatic growth were verified. During one month of September 2017, data had been collected from 166 adult males and females who had a separation-by-death experience. Through SPSS 23.0 and a macro program, the relationships and influences between the factors were verified.
The main results were the following: First, through a product-moment correlation analysis, statistically significant positive correlations appeared for between all, including mourning, post-traumatic growth, resilience, and self-esteem. Second, we verified the relationship between mourning and post-traumatic growth, and the partially mediating effect of resilience. Third, we verified the relationship between mourning and post-traumatic growth, and the partially mediating effect of self-esteem. Based on such results, we suggest the need of therapeutic intervention for the promotion of resilience and self-esteem when suggesting a counseling approach to those who are in the process of mourning after experiencing a separation by death.
