This article is to discern and disclose the real aspects of alcoholic beverage. Its research is divided three parts. At first part, the kinds and grade of the theme are investigated. There are many kinds of alcoholic beverage in Han China, but the most used is made of grains. And in Han society, It is the xuan jiu(玄酒), that is water, that many people regard as the most precious alcoholic beverage. That is because the alcoholic beverage is originated from holy substance, that is water. This holy substance is the xuan jiu(玄酒). Futhermore through collective drinking in rituals, the identified feeling is taken into social community. And second part is its use. The use of alcoholic beverage is widen into many living rituals, including marriage etc. But drinking is not easily permitted to commoners. So drinking for enjoyment is also not easily done. And we can find another usage of the alcoholic beverage in medicine. At that time, it is believed that the capacity of medical treat is linked to the relationship between the heaven and the man, and regards the alcoholic beverage as its medium. So the alcoholic beverage has ability to treat the sicked people, and through drinking its power is granted to medium, especially the medical man(醫). And last part is the making customs. If there are not well prepared with enough grain, the making of the alcoholic beverage is impossible. So its making is generally happened in winter, especially after harvest. And we can find this custom in 四民月令, but do not forget that is also carried by the powerful family.
