This essay aims at examining Lawrence's concept of desire, which poses a direct challenge to the psychoanalytical concept of desire. Deleuze and Guattari define desire as a process of production without reference to any exterior agency, whether it be a lack that hollows it out or a pleasure that fills it up. According to them, Fruedian concept of desire is the result of inscribing in desire the negative law of lack, the external rule of pleasure, and the transcendent ideal of fantasy. They claim pleasure must be delayed because it interrupts the continuous process of positive desire. This article tries to explain that both Conni and Melors in Lady Chatterley's Lover show a strong intention of delaying pleasure so that they can maintain the continuous process of positive desire. In this sense, Melors's unfilled sense of aloneness is another masochist's suffering which is nothing but the price he must pay, not to achieve pleasure, but to untie the psuedobond between desire and pleasure as an extrinsic measure.
