The purpose of this study was to compare the credibility of the Arab Satellite news network Al Jazeera, BBC and CNN, and ascertain the main factors affecting the assessment of the media credibility, and then determine what the media credibility affects their news use and the viewers' assessment of their coverage on the Iraq war. As a result of the analysis, the media credibility stood high in order of Al Jazeera, BBC and CNN. Especially there was a wide difference in credibility between Al Jazeera and CNN, and also between BBC and CNN. This tendency emerged steadily regardless of gender, nationality and status. Both of media involvement and media recognition turned out to be a useful factor in evaluating the media credibility. But the media recognition did not affect the evaluation of CNN credibility. On the other hand, BBC credibility was found out to affect the news use in peace time or wartime, while Al Jazeera credibility had an effect on the news use in peace time and CNN credibility affected the news use in wartime. This study showed that the more the viewers highly appreciate the credibility of the specific media, the more they estimated that the media coverage was critical of the U.S and the U.N while it was favorable to Iraq. These results suggest it is very important for assessing media credibility whether media coverage accords with audience's opinion about the topic. The media credibility could change according to the audience's assessment, regardless of whether the media actually gave impartial, accurate and unbiased reporting. It was also obvious that the audience evaluation of the news coverage could depend on the media credibility, irrespective of the way how the news networks carried out its reports on the war parties. Thus the media credibility may cause the phenomenon of media assimilation, that is, the audience believe their credible media would reflect their political disposition.
