A Study on the Prevalence of Depression in Middle Aged Women - Based on Women Living in Geoje City - Lee, Sam-Soon1)·Choi, Won-Hee1) 1) Department of Nursing, Koje College Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the prevalence of depression in middle aged women who lived in G city. Method: In this descriptive study, the participants were 454 middle aged(40-60years) women who lived in G city. Data was collected from January to February, 2006. Personal interviews with a structured questionnaire were performed. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, χ2-test. Result: The prevalence of depression was 59.7%. There were significantly differences of depression in age, monthly income, educational level, religion, satisfaction of marital status, history of hospitalization, medication history, exercise, perceived health status, subjective symptoms(insomnia, palpitation, back pain, headache, constipation, dyspepsia)(p<0.05). Conclusion: It is necessary to develop the education programs considering significant factors which can prevent the occurrence of middle aged women's depression. Key words : Depression
