Yan Shi Jia Xun (Yan's Family Precepts) of Yan Zhi-tui in Southern and Northern Dynasties (Nanbei Chao, 420-589) is the first family precepts, which contains rich contents and has an organized and grand family system on our history. It lead Confucian thinking into the daily life with the writer's own life experience and Confucian Classics, integrating the achievements from the past. The book focuses on the practices and methods of family education in order to encourage next generations to master the ability of self-protection, learning and survival. As it proposed a practical family education, it became popular among functionary and literati families for thousands of years. It greatly influenced the Chinese feudal society and was delivered to the modern age. Today when we are advocating quality education, we can acquire some beneficial inspiration about family education from Yan Shi Jia Xun, which includes education on value of life, honesty, knowledge of practice and Confucianism. It has been a tendency that we should create a new family education that accords to the demand of modern family and civilization.
