According to Islam, we have four well-defined segments of Life that we will pass through from our conception in the womb until our death and beyond. The four stages of Life are Life in the womb, Life in the World, Life in the grave and the next life(Heaven or Hell). Muslims believe that the Life of this World is only a temporary refuge, and that one day everyone will face Allah to account for their choices in life. Allah is a fair but merciful Judge. Those who are good will rewarded with admission into the Gardens. Those who are evil will be doomed to punishment in Hell fire. The muslims believe a soul is like a breath of air inhabiting a body, causing it to funtion. It is like an invisible clone of the self, living inside the physical self. When we die, our soul lives in the grave - a realm called al Barzakh, the next life - until Resurrection Day. The grave can be a resting place or a torture chamber depending on how the person lived his life. In Islamic Tradition, there is no denying that a Soul gets a taste of Hell or Heaven while it lies in its grave. According to the Koran and Sunnah, admission to Heaven is granted, not earned. Islamic Tradition teaches that Heaven is eternal, whereas a person's sentence in Hell can range from temporary to forever, depending on his crimes. When the person has throughly paid for his bad deeds, Allah may then release him and grant him Heaven. Islamic Tradition says that the Belief in the Resurrection & Afterlife are most important and compelling factor urging us to use our free-will properly.
