이 논문은 雲齋李重慶(1724~1754)의 開城, 平壤, 義州를 포함한 西北地域 여행문학 「西行雜詠」과 「西征錄」을 대상으로 그 속에 표상, 재현된 지역, 장소가 갖는 위상과 여행의 성격을 규정하는 데 목적을 두었다. 한양의 서북지역, 개성, 평양, 의주 등은 고려, 고구려, 고조선의 흔적과 혼이 서린 우리 역사의 古都이며, 선진문화의 유입지 중국으로의 접근 통로였다. 조선 문화의 중심지 한양의 문화적 감수성을 지니지 않은 1000리 밖 영남지방의 18세기 문인, 지식인의 시선에 포착된 이러한 공간, 장소, 그 현장 서북지역의 로컬리티를 제고하고, 여행이 갖는 의미를 밝히는 데 이 글은 역점을 두었다.
이중경은 영조 27년 1751년 가을, 田宅良 형제, 金潤德, 朴涵 등과 서북지역 4천여 리를 115일간 여행하고, 「서행잡영」, 「서정록」을 남겼다. 먼저 지리적으로 단락을 구분하여 이중경의 여행 노정을 밝혔다. 역사 문화적 비중, 시문 속 노출 빈도 등 중요성을 고려하여 핵심지역 개성, 평양, 의주를 중심으로 구체적 장소를 표제어로 설정하였다. 이에 근거하여 이중경이 특정 지역에서 포착한 역사 문화적 공간, 장소 표상과 재현 양상을 밝혔다. 나아가 서북지역 개성, 평양, 의주 등에 대한 이중경의 공간 표상 속에 내재된 문화적 의미망을 복원하고, 공간의 재발견 양상을 찾는 데 집중하였다. 그 결과, 이중경의 서북지역 여행문학에서 우리 역사 문화에 대한 자부심과 짙은 회한의 정조를 읽을 수 있었다. 古都와 역사적 상징물이 산재하는 서북지역은 우리 역사 문화의 源流이며, 聖所였다. 이러한 지역, 장소의 여행은 名分을 중시하는 18세기 영남지역 문인 지식인으로서 자기를 점검하는 ‘자기정체성 확인’으로서의 여행이었음을 알 수 있었다.

This study aims to investigate the symbols, the status of the reproduced locations, and the nature of travel in Woonjae Lee Junggyeong’s (1724 1754) “Seohaengjapyeong” and “Seojeongrok,” which are travelogues written after his trip to northwestern regions, including Gaeseong, Pyeongyang, and Uiju. Located in the northwest region of Hanyang, Gaeseong, Pyeongyang, and Uiju are ancient cities that contain the traces and spirits of the Goryeo, Goguryeo, and Gojoseon eras in Korean history and that were access passages to China, facilitating the import of advanced culture. The present study focuses on the locality of these spaces, places, and fields in the northwestern regions that were captured by historical figures and intellectuals from the Yeongnam region. The Yeongnam region was located at a distance of 1,000 Ris from Hanyang, which was the cultural center of Joseon, and had nocultural sensitivity found in the capital. The study also highlights the significance of such a trip.
Lee Jung-gyeong covered approximately 4,000 Ris in the northwestern regions during his 115-day trip with Jeon Taek-ryang and his brother, Kim Yun-deok, and Park Ham in the autumn of 1751 (the 27th year of King Yeongjo s reign). He left Seohaengjapyeong and Seojeongrok after the trip. This study examines his itinerary by categorizing the paragraphs on the basis of the geographic locations mentioned in them. The names of specific places around the core locations, including Gaeseong, Pyeongyang, and Uiju, are set as titles based on their historical and cultural significance and the frequency of their appearance in poetry and prose. Based on these factors, the historical and cultural spaces, symbols of places, and patterns of reproduction that Lee captured in specific areas are examined. Furthermore, the study focuses on restoring the cultural semantic network inherent in his symbols of spaces for Gaeseong, Pyeongyang, and Uiju in the northwestern regions and determining the patterns of rediscovering spaces. The findings show that Lee"s travel literature related to the northwestern regions reflected his pride in the history and culture of the nation and his sentiments of deep regret. The northwestern regions, scattered with ancient capitals and historical symbols, were the origins and sacred places of the history and culture of the nation. For an 18th-century literary figure and intellectual from the Yeongnam region, who valued a cause would, a trip to these places offered a chance for him to analyze himself and “confirm his ego identity”.
