Jonathan Edwards was a preacher, a theologian, and a revivalist in the times of Colonial America. He left a legacy with many sermons and writings. From his death, many scholars researched Jonathan Edwards. The sheer amount of work piles up 260 long years. Therefore, those who wish to join in the heritage of Edward are embarrassingly confused to know which resources to study in what order.
So in this paper, I present a reading guide on how to study Jonathan Edwards. In Section 2, I introduce some of the simplest and easiest books to read about Edwards and then offer specific references for further studies. In Section 3, I suggest Edwards’ books translated into Korean: 1) Edwards’ three magnus opus(Freedom of Will, Religious Affections, Original Sin), 2) writings about revival and Great Awakening, and 3) sermons and biblical exposition or meditation. Finally, in section 4, I draw an over-arching apparatus to the entire works of Edwards that must be consulted in order for anyone desiring to professionally research Edwards. This paper will be an appropriate reading guide for anyone wanting to follow Jonathan Edwards, since his writings offer many benefits beyond the age to the 21st century.
