The Korean Presbyterian Church played an important role in the preparation, development and character formation of the March First Movement along with the Korean Methodist Church. Of the 33 signatories of the Declaration of Independence, 16 were Christian, and of these, 7 were Presbyterian, 6 Methodist Episcopal Church, South, and 3 Methodist Episcopal Church, North. 3·1 The forces leading the March First Movement in Seoul, Pyongyang, and Jeongju, where the movement was active, were Presbyterian and Methodist. The number of Presbyterian prisoners is higher than that of Methodist and Congregational churches as well as the total number of Cheondoists[“Religion of the Heavenly Way”]. It tells us that Korean Presbyterian Church played a leading role in the preparations and expansion of the March First Movement. The relationship between the March First Movement and the Korean Methodist Church has received much attention, but the connection between the Movement and the Presbyterian Church has not been properly evaluated. The Korean Presbyterian Church played a very important role in the preparation, development and spread of the March First Independence Movement. First, it is the connection between the Korean Conspiracy Case (The 105 Incident) of 1911 and the March First Independence Movement. Second, when examining the series of events that led Presbyterians in northwestern areas to participate in the March First Movement, it is easy to infer the connection between the Korean Presbyterian Church and the March First Independence Movement. Third, the link between March First Movement and Korean Presbyterian Church can be confirmed through the distribution of 33 signatories of the Independence Movement. Fourth, the link between the March First Movement and Korean Presbyterian Church can be confirmed in the course of the Independence Movement in Pyongyang. Fifth, the fact that the Korean Presbyterian Church actively participated in the Movement can be confirmed through the contents of the damage report in the 1919 General Assembly records. This paper reveal these historical findings and illuminates the relationship between the March First Movement and the Korean Presbyterian Church.
