Psychologists are increasingly interested in the role that interpersonal relationships can play in psychotherapy. The therapeutic relationship is considered the key to successful treatment because it enables clients to obtain deeper self-understanding while establishing stronger relationships with their therapists. Different interpretations exist in new philosophical therapy, which emphasizes clients’ relationships with themselves over the therapeutic relation- ship. In line with the aphorism “know thyself,” in new philosophical theory, excavating the innate healing abilities of clients is paramount, and the therapeutic relationship is not the key to successful treatment.
