As DIY and customized cosmetics market grows, it is becoming more important to provide information on raw materials and colorants of cosmetics. The purpose of this study is to analyze color change and to understand color characteristics of pigment by experiment of lipstick pigment condition. A total of 96 lipsticks were prepared for 12 pigmented pigments and the colorimetric values were analyzed. In case of red pigments, mixing a proper amount of a white pigment is effective for expressing vivid red. ‘red 6’ is warm red, and when white pigment is added, it changes to warm pink. Three kinds of ‘Red 7&Red 7 lake’ have a similar color range with 5.5R, but there is a slight temperature difference depending on the manufacturer. ‘Red 28’ is effective in expressing cool red and cool pink because the color variation is large and shifted to red purple when white pigment is mixed. ‘Red 33’ has a dark appearance and expresses a red purple area with medium brightness and medium saturation when white is mixed. ‘Red iron oxide’ is effective for calm brown color expression. In case of yellow pigments, ‘Yellow 10 lake’ has a clear yellow color characteristic and ‘Yellow 5 lake’ has a yellowish orange characteristic. ‘Yellow 6 lake’ is suitable for the expression of yellow having a little red feeling, and ‘Yellow iron oxide’ is characteristic of the calm yellow beige. ‘Blue 1 lake’ has a dark appearance and is suitable for small mixing with other colored pigments. Through this study, it is expected that it will be used as basic data for understanding the color characteristics of lipstick pigments and realizing lipstick color in DIY and customized cosmetics.
