The purpose of this study was to examine major reasons for discontinuing participation of trekking parasitic volcanos(Oreum) situated around Mt. Halla in Jeju island. The participants were 20 dropouts from parasitic volcano trekking club. Participants were contacted individually and answered a series of unstructured in-depth interview on their discontinuing reasons from the participant`s perspective. Two processes were used to establish reliability, that is random triangulation of the data through a second content analysis, and member check. The data 129 quotes, were drawn from verbatim transcriptions of the interviews and were inductively content analyzed. Contents analysis organizes the quotes into increasingly more complex themes and categories representing sources of constraint. Eight major constraints categories emerged from inductive content analysis included lack of time, conflicts within Oreum club, lack of partners, lack of motivation, change of one`s personal affairs, transportation barrier, change of interest, legal/structural constraint. Among discontinuing reasons, lack of time rated as the most important factor, followed by conflict within club, lack of partners, lack of motivation, change of one`s personal affairs. Specifically, conflict within Oreum club, and legal constraint were characterized by uncovered new constructs discovered in volcano trekking situation, We propose that future research request to test relationship between participating motivation, constraints and satisfaction.
