Transition tells us that varied recreation and leisure life had (existed in all periods of Korean history. When we consider recreation as a form of activity. from physical type to individual pastime in quiet nature, which had all elements of competetion, chance, mimicry end vertigo just as callois classification, included. Historical evidence is not sufficient enough however, it was suggested that other forms of recreation as mental state had also been concerned, and PoongRyu(風流) during the period of Lee Dynasty in particular was one of the good example of this kind. Contemplation, or a state of deep mental involvement which was considered as pure leisure by Aristotoe, could also he found in Poong Ryu. From this frame of thought, it might be said that there is much in common between Orient and Western style, of recreational needs and participation. Class systems which means that recreation of high class including Kings family differ from leisure life of general public, just as Veblen declared, also appeared throughout tile Korean history of recreation. It was concluded that : 1. Recreation in pre-historic stage, was more cor-participative in nature, and used as a means of ritual or ceremonial events which way, their expression of Animism and Shamanism. 2. Drinking alchohol beverages, and sing and dance were very important part of most recreational events of large or small. 3. To characterize recreation movement in each period, it can be summarized that ritual and equal participation was the prime object in the stage of pre-history, national identity and uniqueness were expressed in Sam Kook(三國) period, strengthen sovereignty and development of Buddhism influenced to leisure and recreation in Koh Ryo(高麗), and class systems in recreation by Confucianism and social charge, was more explicit in Lee Dynasty(李朝).
