The impact of leisure is so great that jointing planning is required for full use and development of school and community facilities. The park-school concept of joint use of facilities of the school and community provides the most economical and practical approach for the planning of out-door facilities for the school physical education and recreation programs and the neighborhood or community recreation program. The park-school should be the educational, cultural, social, and recreation center for all ages. Properly designed, it provides playing fields for class instruction in sports and games, and permits the adult use of these facilities during after-school hours. Due to the urbanization, Korean cities suffer from the congested environments and various pollutions, and juvenile delinquency is forced day by day. To solve the urbanization problems, the school-park concept should be implemented for Korean cities.. As basic studies on park-school, status of parks and schools in 5 major cities, Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Inchon, Kwangju was evaluated by ,foreign major cities and pertinent documents. The results are follows; 1. Status of land use of 5 major cities was involved 7.06% for residential, 1.58% for industrial, 0.88% for school, 18.21% for agricultural, 41.15% for forestry, 7.38% for river and lake, 5.91% for road, 0.22% for park, and 8.34% for miscellaneous, and 0.22% for park is too little comparing to foreign cities and pertinent documents. 2. Park area per person was nearly 5㎡ and it is narrower than the standard 6㎡ in criteria. 3. 8.39% for park ratio is suggested in urban planning, but it seems very difficult to realize. 4. School area in the cities covered 0.88% and it is very important place as a center of community, but it is poorly furnished and can not do it`s role properly. 5. To solve the urbanization problems, school-park should be researched and considered by the authorities.
