Urban environment colors play an important role in determining its first image. The colors of various buildings, structures and landscapes enrich the city. The main colors are also related largely with the colors preferred by the people living there. Tracing back the causes of the preferred colors tells us that they are also linked to its locality. Influenced by natural, human, and artificial environment, the environment colors show up in totality. This paper looks at the theoretical discussions on the environment colors including the color geography of Jean Philippe Lenclos, a French chromatist, and discuss the environment colors of Daechung-dong Village in Busan to discuss the background of their formation. Daecheong-dong Village was selected by the city government as an environment color model village. The city government selected 12 colors among the basic colors of Busan and conducted painting and other environmental improvement projects for houses and public facilities. However, there is no particular description about the arbitrarily selected colors, and the actual village gives a feeling of being segmented with the coloring work with the colors separated from the surrounding ones. The city government seems to have publicized the project effects by selecting this village located in the most prominent place and by presenting the images with excessive color correction, an act of putting on an ostentatious display. It is noted that the urban regeneration that has recently emerged as a key word is different from the previous unplaned development. However, it is overlooked that the environment colors should be accompanied by research on the various factors and locality of the particular urban area.

도시의 환경색채는 그곳의 첫 이미지를 결정하는 데 중요한 역할을 한다. 다양한 건축물과 구조물, 경관에서 나타나는 색채는 그 도시를 더욱 풍요롭게 만든다. 환경색채를 형성하고 있는 것 가운데 주요색(main color)은 주로 그곳 사람들의 선호색채와도 관련이 있다. 이 선호색채가 생긴 연유를 추적하다 보면 그곳의 로컬리티와도 연결이 되어 있음을 알 수 있다. 환경색채는 그 지역의 자연환경, 인문적 환경, 인공적 환경 등이 영향을 주어 총체적으로 나타난다. 본고는 프랑스의 색채학자인 장 필립 랑클로의 색채 지리학을 비롯한 환경 색채에 관한 이론적 논의를 살펴보고, 부산의 대청동 마을의 환경 색채를 살펴보고 그곳의 형성배경에 대해서 논하고 있다. 대청동 마을은 부산시가 환경색채 시범마을로 선택한 곳이다. 부산색 기본 색채 가운데 12개의 색을 선정해 주택과 공공시설에 도색작업과 환경개선 사업을 시행했다. 그렇지만 임의로 선택된 색에 관해서는 별다른 설명이 없고, 실제 마을도 주변의 색채와 동떨어진 채색 작업으로 분절된 느낌을 주고 있다. 시는 전후의 사업효과를 홍보하기 위해 가장 눈에 잘 띄는 높은 위치에 있는 이곳을 선정하고 이미지 사진 또한 과도한 색채 보정사업으로 보여주기 식 행정 의도를 드러내고 있다. 로컬리티는 어떤 사건을 계기로 해서 새롭게 조성되기도 하지만 주로 그곳의 역사성과 장소성, 그리고 사람들로 인해 켜켜이 쌓이면서 형성되는 것이다. 최근 도시재생이라는 키워드로 이전의 난개발과는 차이를 두고 있긴 하지만, 환경색채에 관해서는 그곳의 다양한 요소와 로컬리티에 대한 연구가 동반되어야 한다는 사실을 간과하고 있다.
