This study presents a descriptive linguistic analysis of a Daur narrative text viewed from the perspective of discourse. Daur is a minority language of North-Eastern China, which is in the early stage to develop its own orthography. Therefore, narrative texts in Daur seem to reflect the features of orality as well as other common linguistic features of narratives. By analyzing a written Daur narrative text, this study tries to deal with its syntagmatic organization and maintains that the macrostructure of a narrative reflecting both surface and plot structures needs to be studied as the first step of comprehending a narrative discourse. It is expected that this discourse study helps to understand linguistic styles and the language specific features that need to be considered in Daur literature.
